What to wear to a Masquerade Ball

Our masquerade ball is an elegant and fun affair where you get to dress up and escape the ordinary. Picking the right outfit for any formal occasion can be daunting and It is not easy to know what to wear to a Masquerade ball

Masquerade balls first emerged as part of the carnival festive season in the 15th century. After this, masquerade balls became more popular and were simply held as part of public festivities.

All guests attending must wear a mask that covers their face and conceals their identity, often accompanied with a renaissance style or modern trendy outfit. If you find yourself without a mask you can have your face painted on the night by our in house artist.

Here are some pictures from our previous event

How to Dress

The beauty of a masquerade costume is that it’s a really easy one to put together as it only has two main components, a dress or suit, and a mask.

The perfect fancy dress theme for lovers and haters of fancy dress, your costume can be as low-key or as extravagant as you like and if you’re not a particular fan of dressing up, you won’t look out of place if you don’t go all out.

What Should a Gentleman Wear?

Women love men with style, it’s a fact. Show off your style and personality with an outfit that will catch her eye. If you want to let a girl know that you’re funny and a great conversationalist, go with something similar to the first outfit. The blue colour on the suit will let her know that you’re adventurous and outgoing and the mask will really send the signal. If you prefer classic, even shy or mysterious, go with the second. The simplicity of the black and white will let her know you’re not a complicated guy, but the blank slate will intrigue enough to pique the interest of a curious girl.If either of these arent your style simple black suit or check some of the pictures we’ve featured below with ideas on what to wear.

Pro Tip: If you’re going to be wearing a tie, then make absolutely sure that it matches your mask – to make things easy we’d simply recommend a nice black tie or bow.

What Should a Lady Wear?

There are so many different options available for a lady attending our Masquerade ball we love Pink and paste (it’s in our logo)l! we came up with two ultra-feminine outfits. Both of the light pastel outfits are glammed up with sparkling masquerade masks to add eye-catching drama that will surely get you noticed.

If that’s not your style choose a dress that is a classic cut that suits your body shape or even a black dress that is simple and versatile would be perfect, a beautiful black dress can be accessorized in a multitude of ways to yield different looks.

Decide how extravagant you want the outfit to be

Once you’ve chosen the foundations for your masquerade costume, it’s time to decide how extravagant you want to be with your mask.

If you’re not really a fancy dress person and you want to dress fairly low-key, that only covers your eyes. However, if you’re not one to shy away from standing out from the crowd, go for something a little more ostentatious!

From feathers to sequins and diamantes, there’s a mask for every look and absolutely anything goes. If you want a more extravagant look choose something similar to the mask below.

Shoes Shoes Shoes

It’s not called a ball for no reason – there’s every chance that dancing will be involved! As a result, we strongly suggest that both men and women wear shoes that they’re comfortable with. Super high heels might look good on any other night, but they’re probably not going to do you too many favours at a masked ball, especially given that your mask will be the statement piece – not your shoes. Men should always wear formal dress shoes when attending a masquerade ball or party. These shoes should be in a neutral colour, such as black or brown.

Accessorize

Similar to the makeup and shoe tips – the mask is your focal point, so there’s no need to do anything that might detract from it. Keep any bold accessories to a minimum – particularly things like necklaces that might clash with the mask.

Hair and Makeup

Choosing makeup is entirely up to you, but we do have a couple of tips. The first is that you really don’t want to go overboard. Bright colours and fake additions are for your mask, not your face. You might go for some complimentary lipstick if your mask is of the plain variety, but otherwise make the mask the focus.
